Apple pie is a delicious desert that everybody loves. When you are the only one "eating healthy " in the family you can substitute a regular apple pie with a healthy oatmeal one and no one will be complaining! Just don't tell them of course;) Just kidding! There is a difference in taste to the 'normal' sweet and pastry filled dish, However it is not a bad one. It has a clean taste with a hint of sweetness that doesn't leave you feeling thirsty or sick!
The recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups of oats
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1/3 a teaspoon of salt
- Raisins (amount depends on how much you want)
- 2 Apples or an apple and a pear
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
- a teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1 and 3/4 cups of milk
- 2 eggs
For toppings: (optional)
- honey
- peanut butter
- banana
- Cinnamon
- Apple
This 'desert' can even replace breakfast. Just add milk and bananas and it makes for a delicious bowl of apple pie.
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
- Add all of the dry ingredients into a bowl
- Once all the dry ingredients are in the bowl, add the milk and, vanilla essence, eggs, raisins.
- Stir all of the ingredients in the bowl AND put aside to soak
- Chop up the fruit
- Add the fruit and stir.
- Place the mixture into a greased bowl and bake for 40 minutes.
- Take it out the oven and cut into slices!
- Add toppings
