What is Reflexology

Reflexology A Image of the reflexes on the foot that represent organs/areas in the body. 'Reflexology is a gentle and non-invasive therapy that encourages the body to balance and heal itself. ' ( Hull,2017) In this treatment the therapist uses her hands to apply pressure to specific areas on the hands or feet - reflexes - which reflect organs and areas inside the body to relieve pain or congestion in the area. It is such a relaxing treatment and is so different from the others. This gives your body the opportunity to do what it does best and that is to heal itself. Oh, how beautiful our bodies are made and how exciting it is to learn about it. Reflexology aims to bring balance to the body which allows the body to heal. This balance is called homeostasis and when the body is out of balance, disease happens. Is it painful? Reflexology is not painful, however when pressure is applied to a specific area that has problems it can be sensitive or uncomfortable.  Is this bad?  No, this

What is Somatology?

Somatology is the study of the body and its functions. We can use our background knowledge to treat our clients holistically, mind, body and soul through different treatments( from facials to body care treatments) focusing on in salon treatment, home care advice on exercise, nutrition and products!  We are not able to cure any diseases but we can work alongside doctors to help treat our clients in the best way possible. We are not only concerned with what goes on inside the body but can provide you with superficial treatments as such as make-up, waxing, manicures and pedicures. The subjects I study include Anatomy and Physiology, Nutrition as well as treatment and therapies such as Aromatherapy and Reflexology( which I LOVE). It is very exciting and always keeps me on my toes.  However, at the moment I am studying from home due to the lock-down in South Africa. We would normally go into class all week and have practical classes for three out of  five days. We practice on each other as

Delicious Carrot Cake Muffins

Healthy Carrot Cake muffins!   Ingredients: 1/2 Cup of coconut flour  1 large carrot grated 1 medium peeled apple grated 1/4 a cup of raisins  3 eggs 1/4 a teaspoon of salt  1 teaspoon of cinnamon  1 teaspoon of baking soda  1/2 teaspoon of vanilla essence  1/4 a cup of milk  2 teaspoons of peanut butter  Chopped nuts Instructions : 1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. 2. In a bowl, ADD flour, cinnamon,salt and baking soda 3. In a separate bowl add the eggs, vanilla essence, peanut butter and milk. Whisk all of this together. 4. Add the wet mixture into the dry mixture and whisk until everything is mixed. 5. Add the raisins, carrots and apples and whisk into the mixture. 6. Grease a muffin pan. 7 Add muffin mix to the pan and sprinkle with chopped nuts. 8. Healthy Sweet Potato Muffins

                          Delicious muffins from sweet potato Sweet potato in a muffins? If you are like me you will indulge in the clean, fresh taste in your mouth and the simple thought of it being healthy. Well, healthier than a normal flour-based muffin of course ;).  However in this recipe you use two odd ingredients as your base: Sweet potato and....PEANUT BUTTER! Yep, that's right. Peanut Butter. It tastes delicious and gives it a light and fluffy texture not too heavy on your stomach but just the right texture of a 'normal' muffin! Enjoy! Recipe below.  INGREDIENTS:  1 Cup of smooth unsalted, no sugar peanut butter  1/2 a cup of cooked and peeled mashed sweet potatoes  3 medium eggs  1 teaspoon of baking soda  1/2 a teaspoon of cinnamon  1/2 a teaspoon of ginger  1/2 a teaspoon of vanilla essence  1/2 a teaspoon of sea salt  1/4 a cup of  honey or maple syrup  INSTRUCTIONS:  Pre-heat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Steam the sweet potato until soft  and then crush
